Block Happy?

Hey guys and dolls!

Just wanted to let you know that in the past month or so, I've had to block so many people on my Youtube channel. Most of them are porn or other type of comment spammers, plain rude ass people who just hurl insults, and I've also started blocking people who just leave annoying, irritating, and completely unnecessary comments. I mean really, is it necessary to negatively comment on the way I'm wearing my hair that day, or criticize the words I use to speak, or other completely irrelevant, minor details? These kind of bullshit comments have slowly started to zap the fun out of Youtube for me so I've had a bit of a zero-tolerance policy lately. I know pixiwoo have enforced a zero tolerance policy on their channel recently and it definitely opened my eyes. People just seem to think that since I post videos on Youtube, they are suddenly at liberty to criticize anything they wish about me, and that I should just "suck it up" as it comes with the territory. I think a lot of people just lose all forms of respect and good graces once it comes to their online behavior.

I'm not talking about people who leave criticism on the makeup, like, hey I don't really like this because of blah blah - that's one thing. It's more like those who leave "constructive criticism" on completely irrelevant things, which are usually more like thinly veiled insults anyhow.

Looking back on things, I might have also blocked some people either accidentally or unfairly and I'm sorry about that if that is the case - I don't want to upset anyone. So I'm going to offer this "get out jail free card" to anyone who still follows my blog or videos, and doesn't know why they were blocked. It might indeed have been by accident, or you said something that irritated me and you caught me on a bad day. Hey, I'm a regular person too, sometimes comments just get under my skin, but lately I've just been blocking because I don't want to deal with the crap.

If you feel you have been blocked unfairly, send me an email with a direct link to your Youtube channel and I'll just unblock you - no problem. (Unless you were blocked and then proceeded to use one of my other sites to hurl insults at me - in which case good riddance!! I made the right judgement.)

Thanks for reading and hopefully understanding...!

If anything, I'd say you're one the most tolerant gurus out there, and I can't think one minute at how you could have blocked someone unfairly. Just to mention one example, I don't know on earth you managed to keep your cool, calm and composure when youtubers were leaving requests in your halloween requests video, rather than leaving them as a video response. I think I would have totally lost it on that one. I could not never be a makeup guru on youtube 1. I don't have the talent but most importantly, I definitely don't have a thick skin to brush off hurtful comments and move on like that. Tough world out there and I will choose to stay on that comfy sheltered side haha. Love the 1950's vintage 'monopoly' card you chose. Would also have liked a photo of the kick ass julia in there, the one of you with the nails and the hammer, about to assemble all the ikea drawers lol :) Don't mess with me or else. haha . all the best xx

Don't get upset by the comments of desperate, with no real life, people. They are always jealous of people who make difference and they just try to annoy them to get their attention to feel somebodies....

You rock Julia, we love your work and we support you!

I was just talking about rude behavior in youtube with my hubby. It seems like people think that they can insult and hurt whomever they like and its ok. I totally agree with you and I would block all those hateful people too.

word sister....I am doing a video addressing this exact thing...I am tired of it too.

thats exactly why i never comment on videos... no one can ever take what i think/say to heart and/or get offended by my opinions

Well, anything posted out there on the internet is at risk of being flamed/spammed at. Always. You can't expect people to be all polite and classy, because that's just not going to happen. I mean come on, it's the internet. People can say what they want, how they want. The only thing you can do is to ignore it and put up with it. I think that's something you always have to take into consideration when you post videos of yourself out into the world wide web. Everything's... out there.

I completely understand. Some people just associate famous with someone who isn't human. But, in reality, who wants to be criticized and insulted by people they don't even know? If someone doesn't like your channel, they should move on. It seems so unnecessary to be rude.

MissChievous said...

To Annon: Actually, I don't have to "put up" with unneccessary, irrelevant and rude comments. I'm not jaded enough to believe that it should just become acceptable for people to act like douchebags just because it's the Internet. Sure, I can't stop people from behaving that way, but I don't have to just accept it either. I will continue to block people for those very reasons.

I understand completely! Most of those comments come from people that have no interest in your channel anyways. Ie: I got a comment the other day from some dude that had uploaded rap videos that if i lost weight I'd bee even better.. Seriously WTF.
I know I put myself out there as so many of us do but that is what i deem unessesary! As if he wanted to learn how i do my makeup, unless he secretly does and he's ashamed but thats another can of worms and thats not my problem hahahah!

OOOoooohhh I sooo understand what you're saying and yes I agree that you should maintain your zero tolerance mentality. Some of these people have absolutely NOTHING better to do or so and just clog your comment list with negativity. You produce great work and you are a true artist and master of your craft. BLOCK the haters!

I love the way you do make up and it is helping me. I want to do make up on the side but I'm not confident. I'm learning alot from you and you inspire me to be creative.

Unfortunately, due to Youtube's popularity you are going to pull in people from all walks of life, and that includes the not so nice ones. All those 12 year old kids, the mentally ill, and people who were brought up with poor social skills can just let loose on YT. I often wonder how you put up with it, and I admire your strength in facing these comments every day. Block away.

alana said...

That sucks. I noticed some pretty horrible comments on Petrilude’s tutorials and it makes you wonder about some people.

This is very sweet of you to give folks a 2nd chance. I for one would rather you block the jerks than have to see what they post. Thanks for putting yourself out there, you're awesome. :)

I think you're putting a whole lot of your time in all those Tutorials and Blogs and so on and I think we should really appreciate you doing all this for us. I totally understand why you block some people and I don't think that this is unfair.
Just block and ignore this stupid comments and people and keep on doing your absolutely great videos! :-D

Julia! I see u had to take serious action against those rude people. I don't think I have upset u xD well maybe I have commented something about your hair but always with good vibes, without offensive words. Like on the Blog world, those who doesn´t like u they can change the channel (or read something else). People who despite of that, it's annoying well, they should get a life.
I like ur tutorials, I confess it's my guilty pleasure because I still think it's too much make up for one person :D but I like the way u teach the utube viewers and the comments u give. Are interesting. Do I make up ? no, Will I make up like u tomorrow? I don't think so but I watch just in case... Lifesaver! :)

Don't feel upset! What is this "guru" thing? who can tell u are guru, u are not? I mean I^ve seen "gurus" that aren't impressive at all.

Thanks for reading and for not blocking this comment xD hehehe.

Hey, i totally agree with u.i have ppl that leave comments that is totally irrelevant bout the makeup and i got completely sick with em. Why cant they leave +ve critics so we can improve? wats the benefit of all the crap they've posted? Happy? yes, maybe but it never lasted forever, of course, but u will never be happy. as ur heart doesnt allow of free thinking or to be precise +ve thinking.

i wish ppl to be mo open out there, to know that makeup are way too subjective and its individual creativity. its good for us to receive all this kind of critics, but there are always a manner of saying it. i do support on what u have done.
no doubt there will be people liking our work and some might not.

one thing that i learnt to deal with this was-i just think they are jealous of what achievement we have today, and they just will never ever move forward. You are a great makeup artist and u have been such a great inspiration to me on my work today. Thanks alot and do keep up ur excellent work!

Block away! I get so angry with the level of rudeness on YT and on blogs. Just because someone's "put themselves out there" on the internet that doesn't give you the right to treat them horribly and leave nasty, unhelpful, mean comments. If people want to make a negative point then they need to first look up the definition for "constructive criticism".

Tiffany said...

Blocking makes sense. I know that people do strange things when given anonymity, but I'll never understand why that happens. Why make a hurtful comment that isn't even relevant to what you're watching? At any rate, good for pixiwoo and good for you. :)

Anonymous said...

Try not to bother about such morons, there are plenty of them out there. They have nothing better to do than to criticize what s great. The reasons for their immature actions are very obvious: they envy you. They have no talent, no knowledge and therefore nothing to be proud of. But you have it all and they cannot stand that. I pity them.
So don't lose your enthusiasm and keep doing the excellent work for us, who know to appreciate it.Nicky

I was meaning to pm you about this very subject. I have recently been posting makeup looks on Makeup Alley's FOTD Board and although most of the comments have been positive, it seems that some people go out of their way to be rude and critical. I have been trying to ignore such comments but, it is rather annoying. Kudos to you for tackling this issue head on! I don't understand why people feel the need to be unkind to people they don't even know. Perhaps it's cliche but, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all! By the way thank you for using the picture I submitted to you of my Husband Tim and I for your Halloween recreations (I was Corpse Bride w/ blue lips, Tim was himself). Even Tim was excited to be a part of your blog! Happy Holidays.

I agree...now that you mention it, I haven't been logging onto YT lately as much as I used to, I think alot has to do withthe comments that accumulate based on such negativity. People are rude. They feel it's ok to say anything as long as it's online and their true identity is not found out. Sad. I'mg lad you posted this blog. Makes alotta sense. Sorry you've had to endure such meaness from people. I have no idea s to why people find it relevant to even comment if it's not going to be a positive one or in regards to the tutorial's subject-matter itself anyways. They're just taking up space. Look forward to more vids Ms. Julia. =)

I see your videos in youtube and this is the firts time that I post in your blog.

There are many people who makes tutorials in my country (Spain) with the same problem, I don't understand what it's funny in make the people feel disgusting with some unnecesary comments.

If you don't like what you see, it's so easy: dont' see it anymore

Many people can make a good commentary even they don't like your work, because they give ideas to make better your job, but when are free insults or porn things... Not all internet it's porn.

there should be some respect for everybody.

See you!

(P.S. Sorry if my english it's not good enought )

I know what you mean. My sister use to be my troll and I block her on all my social media sites. I love You-tube and I admire those who put in the time to do videos...but I hate to read snarky comments toward them and begun to give them thumbs down. One time I commented on a video and got snarky comment towards me about what I said. I block them as well. I got to blogs and Youtube to be enlightened, not to read negative comments. You keep doing you...I will be watching and help keep the snarkiness down.

This is partically why I'm afraid to post things to my channel. I applaude you for taking matters into your own hands. Since the evoltion of the internet, people have become more and more inconsiderate and down right disrespectful. Brava, Julia!

Hi Julia,

I have been following you on You Tube and your blog since the Summer and I think you are totally amazing. You are mega talented in creating incredible looks and explaining them clearly in a down to earth manner in your tutorials. Most importantly through your blog and tutorials you empower people to express themselves through the art of make up and that is a pretty amazing thing. To all those who have nothing better to do than to criticize and be rude or worse, get a life!!

As one of your suscribers I appreciate it. I like to read through comments sometimes for tips/good questions etc and all the nasty mean stuff is a real turn off.

Good! I'm so glad you're standing up to people who decide they want to leave rude comments.. Seriously.. If they don't like it, why watch it? :/

I think you're doing the right thing. It takes away from people's enjoyment when they have to read negative, nasty, unnecessary comments. Your videos have taught me so much, and I keep coming back to them because you're down to earth and you explain everything so well. Your looks are all unique as well. Keep up the good work :)
