OPI Bastille My Heart

Todays nails of the day are OPI Bastille My Heart. This red polish came out with the France collection. It doesn't show quite accurately on this picture, it's deeper in real life, like a deep crimson red. I'm not huge on red nails, but every now and then it tickles my fancy.

This actually came about because I filmed a video tonight on how I manicure my nails, so I picked the brightest color so it shows up really well on film. Filming the manicure video was so much fun actually, that it's made me consider getting into nail art. I'm not huge on nail art as I think a large part of it just looks really tacky, but I have seen some designs that looked really good, especially those of the "less is more" variety.

Would you be interested in seeing some nail art videos from me? I have a feeling it might be something I could get good at since I love artsy stuff in general, and I'm pretty decent with a paint brush. Although I have no idea what type of brushes are suitable for nail art, can you just use normal art brushes? Can you use normal nail polish, or does it have to be thinned down a bit?

I'd be happy for any input or tips in the comments!! Oh and the manicure video will be coming up soon on my Youtube channel. It's been so frequently requested but I was never able to do it before without a good tripod, which I have now! Yay for sturdy set-ups.

Ooh, I'd love to see that! I think it's important for you to invest in a dotting nail brush - you know, for flowers and other designs you may come up with. Funny, I was thinking the same after I purchased some Sephora by OPI Nail Lacquers today.

There are certain nail art brushes that you can just get off of ebay. My friend has a set and she is amazing at doing nails now, so I don't even go to a salon (plus the only time I went my nails looked awful and it took forever)anymore.

But I think you should do nail videos. It'd be a nice change.

I also am very into painting my nails and but I prefer just one solid color. maybe a french tip now and then but I LOVE red on my nails. Anyway, just recently I was watching something about nails on youtube and it's these stamps. I haven't ordered them but they look really cute and not tacky at all! I was so amazed at the things people come up with. Hope it is interesting to you too : ) I'm not sure about the youtube link but i'm sure if you just search for nail stamps, you will find it :D

I would love to see some of your nail designs, I'm not good at trying to use a brush but I'd still like to see your nail art ideas!

Get some dotting tools! They have nail art polish that has a very thin and long brush on it.

I think the base polish can be normal, but the polish you make the designs with is normally thicker. Also, there are nail art brushes out there I have had nail art done before they don't use the normal brushes. If you look up some youtube videos on nail art you will find some good materials.

I think it would be fun to watch. I'm not a big nails person, though. I've actually learned more about nails from reading your blog. But I definitely more interested in your makeup tutorials. I just love them too much! <3

It looks gorgeous! Your nails are so healthy and just amazing. Maybe you could incorporate your nail care regime into a video? Nail art wise, there's people like Art Deco I think, and you can get specialist nail art brushes if you want. Or just use art ones. They'll work just as well.

I actually own a bunch of nail polish colours but I only wear solid colour. I would be interested in a nail art video of yours, especially because I would love to see nail art that isn't tacky. I love artsy stuff as well and maybe I should spend more time on my nails :D
Ich würde wirklich gerne sehen, was man so machen könnte, außer Glitzersteinchen usw... ;)

I'm a nail buff myself, I'd love to see you take on some nail art! I picked up a dotting tool and very thin brush as it's much easier to so designs with. I just use my normal polishes though there are ones out there specifically for that purpose. The stamping is called Konad, I'm torn on that. It can look really nice but I've never felt like investing in the tools to do it. I think regular art brushes would work just fine, you want whatever tools you are comfortable with!

know. I also do not really like to use red lacquer, but sometimes you want something radical and exciting! I really like this shade. very rich. and we all expect from you something new. gladly want to see new video))))

Yes I would very much be interested in a nail art videos You have such beautiful hands/nails. I cannot wait to see the manicure video. I would tell you there is a great nail brush at Sally's, but I am not sure if you have a Sally's where you are.

I think you can you use one of those skinny paint brushes for nail art.

I am really interested to see what you have for us. I would really like to do something different on my nails but some of the stuff that's on YouTube - oh my. I can't got to work with my nails looking like a bedazzler threw up on it - yikes!

I absolutely love Red nail polish! It's my first "go to". I can't explain the feeling I get when I wear it (which is often) but I wear it more often than other colors. My grandmother always wore Revlon's reds and she had nails like yours. She was always doing her nails. :)I don't have this color but I'm gonna get it. It's so pretty! Looking forward to seeing your manicure vid!

Oh! about the nail art. Yes! Would love to see it.
My daughter told me to get a tool at the local sewing store so I went to JoAnn's here and bought one. I can't remember what it's called but it's kinda like a ball point pen tapered on both ends and has little balls on both ends that you can use to make designs on your nails. It works great at making flowers.

YES! More nail tutorials please, especially since you are a nail empress...I've been waiting so long for a tutorial on how you get those impeccable nails day in and out...just curious, how often do you paint your nails a different colour?

Anonymous said...

Yeah, you should take a look at the stamping system using Konad... I think it's really fun and there are some simple decorations that are really cute and fast to accesorice your nails with :)

Danielle said...

We've convinced you about Nail Art! Good to read! Look forward to seeing your nail art if it's anything like your makeup designs! Beautiful x

Oh, forgot to say that I've been told that sable brushes, lowest numbers are perfect for nail art but I prefer the Art Deco striping brushes, easy to use for beginners! Also a Konad stamper and some plates are so much fun to use and designs can look lady like and classy!

I love my nails. I've found that certain colors don't look good with nail art. But yes, I would totally love to see some tutorials from you. I was actually about to purchase some supplies so I could do a video. I know queenofblendingmau (I think that's her username) has some videos that totally inspired me.

you can purchase polish with the skinny brushes from ebay or other nail art websites.

after applying the top coat (or if you don´t want to apply a top coat) you can apply mineral oil on your nails, it makes the polish dry even faster and prevents damages if you accidentaly touch your wet nail.
in some countries you can find nail polish drying oil, it is essentially mineral oil in a nail polish like bottle.

I have always had fun with painting my nails. When I was a kid, I would paint Mickey Mouse, and snowmen, whatever I could find, on my nails. Now I like them simple. All you need is a couple of artist brushes, of course thinner ones. Cheap brushes are better, because its for your nails, and it won't damage the brush. It's always fun stuff.

Ooo, that would look awesome on my toes. I'm not much into nail art. I just like the basics but it definitely cool to watch.
